About KASS

  • KASS students, who range in age from 6 months to 6 years, are first taught survival skills in the water which can lead to all the enjoyment that supervised water activities can provide.

  • The education is directed at teaching the infant, the person closest to the solution, to respond to being face down in the water.  The rationale is that with appropriate redirection, the infant can use the same strength, endurance and mental capacities that they used to escape supervision and get into the water, to survive in this unforgiving environment.
  • The intent of the KASS Instructor is to instill competence in the water, so that the infant becomes an aquatic problem solver.
  • All skills are initially learnt in a swimsuit.  But, since most children drown while fully clothed, the child is then given the opportunity to utilize and practice their skills while fully clothed.
  • All daily lessons are one on one with a highly trained ISR Instructor who is in direct control of the lesson.  The parent or caregiver, at the side of the pool, is encouraged to view the lesson poolside and verbally praise & encourage their child’s efforts during the lesson.
  • The program educates parents and caregivers about all aspects of aquatic safety for infants through interaction with their child’s Instructor.
