Instructor Education and Development Program
The ISR program for Student Instructor development is a comprehensive
educational experience that includes actual in-water work with a certified
Training Specialist. There is associated guided academic study of a broad base
of subjects including child development and learning theory, behavioural science,
and anatomy, physiology and physics as they relate to infants and young children
in the aquatic environment .
ISR Training Specialists
ISR has a group of Training Specialists that include 3 teaching Senior Master
Instructors, 2 Senior Master Candidate, 17 Master Instructors, and over 15
Master Instructor Candidates. Each of our training specialists has the expertise
to train new instructors in all aspects of the ISR technique and protocols.
The learning process
Student Instructors spend a minimum of two hours, five days a week, for at
least six weeks in the water with a certified Training Specialist. During that
time, Student Instructors work hands-on with children in the water under the
strict guidance of a Training Specialist. Academic study with a Training
Specialist, along with independent study and video analysis requires an
additional five-ten hours per week. Although all Student Instructors are
presented the same academic materials, your Certified Training Specialist will
develop your training program specifically to meet your individual needs and
your learning style.
Our Curriculum
Our curriculum is presented using a combination of e-learning for independent
on-line study, goal-based scenarios and worksheets, in water with hands-on
training, videotape review presentations and classroom instruction.
Ongoing training and support
From the moment you begin your training you will be considered a part of the
ISR team. Each instructor in the organisation wants you to be as successful as
possible because successful instructors reach more babies. ISR also has a
mentoring system in place to assist you in every aspect of your professional
development. In addition to mentoring, ISR offers a dedicated website only for
instructors to receive the most up-to-date information through articles,
postings and message boards. Instructors can ask questions, receive answers,
enrol in self-paced curriculum's and continue with their ongoing professional
development through this website. Through mandatory annual re-certification
activities, ISR insures quality control and standardisation while instructors
are challenged by Senior Master Instructors and Master Instructors to achieve
new levels of professionalism, efficiency and safety.
